Voice To Parliament Referendum

The Voice to Parliament referendum will be held tomorrow, Saturday 14 October 2023.

It will be an opportunity for Australians to recognise the First Peoples of Australia and to enshrine an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice in our constitution.

The Voice will give independent advice to the Parliament and Government on matters that impact First Nations, people because we know that consultation with communities means we can get better results.

We know that the status quo is not working, and this Saturday will be an opportunity for us all to make a practical difference and help close the gap between Indigenous and non-indigenous Australians.

2023 NSW Volunteer Of The Year Awards

I attended the 2023 Western Sydney Volunteer of the Year Award Ceremony held by The Centre for Volunteering.

Volunteers do not ask for recognition or awards, but their achievements deserve to highlighted and they should be thanked for their efforts in bettering our community.

Congratulations to all the awardees.

All Australians can volunteer and I encourage those who are interested to click the button below to learn more.

Whiddon - Glenfield Men’s Shed

The Men’s Shed at Frank Whiddon in Glenfield has celebrated it’s first birthday.

The Men’s Shed provides a space for residents to maintain social connections as well as work on projects. I hope to see it continue to support our community into the future.

Good Samaritan Catholic College

I visited Good Samaritan Catholic College to speak with Year 10 commerce students about the operations of Parliament.

It is always a pleasure to meet and talk with so many bright students from our community.

Bushfire Preparedness

October 1 marked the official start of the 2023-2024 bushfire season.

In September alone there were over 2,000 bush and grass fires across NSW and the coming summer is predicted to be warm and windy bringing with it an increased risk of fires.

We all can play a role in reducing the fire risk in our community by preparing ourselves and our homes for the coming season.

Below are some simple, yet effective tasks you can do to reduce your fire risk.

Mental Health Week

This week was Mental Health Week.

The Albanese Government is delivering on reforms that will help more Australians better access mental health services when they need it.

We all can play a role in reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage those around us to reach out when they need support.

Employment White Paper

The Albanese Government has released the Employment White Paper ‘Working Future’.

The paper lays out a pathway forward for Australian workers to adapt and take advantage of the big shifts underway in the Australian economy.

The nature of employment is shifting and the Albanese Government wants to create an economy in which everyone has the opportunity for secure, well paid jobs.

The document outlines 5 objectives and presents 31 future reform directions to help guide the future of the workforce.

‘Working Future’ will help create an Australia with a bigger, better-trained and more productive workforce in which workers benefit.

Boosting Australia’s Recycling Capabilities

Thanks to the Albanese Labor Government’s investment, Australia will be able to recycle an extra one million tonnes of extra waste each year.

Boosting recycling in Australia is good for our environment and for local jobs. Our investment is creating almost 2,800 jobs and that’s with just half of our investment out the door.

The Albanese Government is increasing our capacity right now and building a more circular economy.

Free Shingles Vaccination

For Older Australians

Older Australians will have free access to the best protection against shingles.

Everyone aged 65 years and over, First Nations people 50 years and over, and immunocompromised people 18 years and over at high risk of herpes zoster infection are eligible.

A Shingrix vaccine would usually cost up to $560. We’ve made it free for almost 5 million Australians.

Australia will now have one of the most comprehensive and widely available shingles vaccination programs in the world.

Eligible people should talk to their GP or pharmacist about getting the vaccine.
