A Budget that Delivers for the Australian People

The Australian people, and the people of Werriwa voted for change. They voted for a better future. Werriwa finally has a government that works for them.

The Albanese Government has delivered its first budget since the election, ending the waste and rorts over the last 9 years.

The Labor budget, the first in a decade, is delivering on:

  • Responsible cost-of-living relief to Australian families.
  • Targeted investments to build a stronger, more resilient, and more modern economy.
  • Beginning the long-term task of budget repair.

With high inflation and rising interest rates, we understand that Australians are experiencing difficult challenges. That is why the Government is delivering on the election promises that taken to the May Election including:

  • Cheaper childcare for more than 1.2 million families
  • Cheaper medicines by reducing maximum PBS general co-payment.
  • Fee-free TAFE places with 180,000 places in 2023
  • Expanding Paid Parental Leave to six months by 2026
  • More affordable housing – including a National Housing Accord
  • Increasing the income threshold for the senior’s health card
  • Getting wages moving – by supporting an increase in the minimum wage, a wage rise for aged care workers, and fixing the bargaining system

These are measures that will provide cost of living relief without adding to the inflation challenges households are already facing.

This budget delivers on our plan to build a stronger, more resilient, and more modern economy.

The investments in the future of our economy include:

  • 20,000 new university places over the next two years for students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • A national push to close the gender pay gap
  • Expanding access to the NBN and improving mobile coverage
  • More than $120 billion in transport infrastructure over the next decade
  • Allowing older Australians to keep more of their pension when they work
  • More funding and more staff to slash the visa backlog to help employers fill labour shortages

This budget begins to build a better future – with more opportunities for more people, in more parts of Australia. This budget marks the end of a wasted decade and seizes the opportunities before Australia.
